Words are Art... by Bethany Pace
Art is inevitable, art will always
exist in the world. We should be afraid
when art disappears, that means we have lost ourselves, our sense of
creativity, and our sense of humanity.
Art means one thing to one person, and another to the next, but art to
me is everything. Art is everything
surrounding you, everything that captures your eye, and you yourself are a work
of art. A work of art created from the
dust of the earth. Art: the expression
or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual
form such as a painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated for
their beauty or emotional power.
I express my art through painting,
playing an instrument, and my favorite art form, words. Words can move people, and occasionally
mountains. Words can bounce off someone’s
tongue into millions of other’s brains.
Some words follow you home, some words follow you down the street, some
words sleep beside you at night, and some words slide off the top of your
cranium into the air only to dissipate behind you.
Your mouth could be described as an instrument.
Since I am a musician, I can vouch for the fact that before you press your
keys, set your embouchure, or begin to blow air, you must analyze the current
situation. If the note needs to be
higher, your mouth should be set a bit tighter than it should be compared to a
lower note. Just as when you are
speaking, you should stop and realize what’s going on, what you should say, and
how it’s going to effect the people you are saying it to.
Being a person who carries the
persecuting words of others upon their shoulders, and into bed with them, you should
think before you speak. If you have
nothing constructive or meaningful to say, say nothing at all.
Words are art, words are harmful,
words can be beautiful, and words can be mortifying...

ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful. I loved how you used personal experiences to show how art can be many things for different people. I completely agree with everything you said. Learning to play an instrument taught me how to express myself in ways that I normally couldn't. Your post is so well written and it really speaks to the reader. I love it so much! Art can help you express emotions and it's good you have such an interest. -Kim Wilson
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kim! This is a very beautifully written essay. I am so glad that I read this! Your appeal to emotions is very prominent in your writing. Your vocabulary is extensive and exquisite! I'm so glad that you have found art forms that suit you. I believe that everyone is capable of making great works of art. Your essay reminded me that I too am a musician. I often forget that. When I think about the word "musician" I think of an instrument, as you play. But vocalists are musicians too! In that art form, I get to use words (that aren't usually my own) and pair them with music to really express emotion. Music helps me say the things I can't plainly speak sometimes. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI was wonderfully moved.
