matthew told me to write this -- karlee sanders (NUMBA 22 BABY)

hey everybody, this is my FINAL BLOG POST! I'm throwing a party in my brain right now. Anyways, I'm going to use this last blog post to write about something near and dear to my heart...
Pokémon GO.
Pokémon GO was released on July 6th, 2016. The world had been waiting patiently for a long time for this game, so basically everyone flipped when it was finally made available. I know that my household talked about Pokémon GO that entire week, and we still actively play it. I can't tell you how many times I've drove around Caraway looking for Poke Stops. When my family went to Little Rock for my dad's choir workshop, I literally was playing Pokémon GO 75% of the time.
Some people see Pokémon GO as a waste of time. Others think the game is exclusively for idiots. Yes, I've been called an idiot for playing Pokémon GO. No, I don't care at all. I see the game as a way to reconnect with what entertained me as a child. Growing up with three brothers, two of them being older than me, has allowed me to gain a lot of knowledge about the Pokémon franchise. I used to wake up super early and watch the TV show with my brother, Matthew. I played all the games on my Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS. This game coming out has allowed me to remember all the good times I've associated with Pokémon, and I love it! Its fun and keeps me entertained. I love how the creators brought the game to life for all of the players.
In order to catch the Pokémon, a player must walk (or have someone drive you very slowly, particularly under 20mph) to find and catch Pokémon. While you are walking or travelling, you also earn kilometers to hatch eggs, which give you Pokémon. Players can also pick a team (Valor, Mystic, or Instinct) to represent in battle at gyms. Pretty soon, I'm sure that players will be able to trade and battle Pokémon with each other.
Pokémon has entertained millions for a long time, and its definitely brought a lot of people together. As Meowth once said, "We do have a lot in common. The same Earth, the same air, the same sky. Maybe if we started looking at what's the same instead of what's different... well, who knows."

  1. Hey Karlee, I don't play Pokemon Go myself but I do think it's a wonderful way to make children and people more active, so props to the creators. I didn't play Pokemon as a child sadly, I was super girly and into princess movies and barbie dolls. I feel like I missed out on such a cool aspect of childhood by not being into the things my siblings were always into!! I do not think you or other fellow pokemon go players are stupid (excluding the ones who walk into traffic playing. DUMMBBBB.) Play on!!! -Shailey Wooldridge
