Heavyn Hadl (post and comments at the end)

This I Believe Essay --

Heavyn Hadl Forgiveness is a word that everyone is familiar with. We hear it sometimes daily and are told that we should have this in our hearts. But it is often that we don't always do it. Well, at least I don't. My mom and dad have taught me forgiveness and it has been tattooed in my brain since day one. I've always understood that I must always forgive those who hurt me and have even encouraged it to others. ¨It's hard to forgive, but we must do it, not only for others, but for ourselves as well¨. But I had never really had an incident happen to me before that I had to use that forgiveness. And after that point, I had realized how difficult it was to forgive. A very important person to me fell back on their word, causing me to fall and get hurt. It was so bad that I went to all lengths to ignore this person because of the betrayal that invaded my heart. The pain and anger were real, and it was eating me up. But, I couldn't talk myself into forgiving this person. I didn't realize how much that keeping that grudge was hurting me. It was hurting me more than the person who did me wrong. One Sunday morning, I went to church with no intention of forgiving, still. However, I sat through the sermon and listened to every word my preacher spoke. It felt as if he was speaking straight to me. Do you know what the sermon was about? You'll never guess. Forgiveness. I took every word to heart and found it in myself to forgive that person. After I forgave them, it was like weight was lifted off of my chest and shoulders. You don't realize how much it hurts you to hold on to pain. The relief of forgiveness is incredible. Always forgive, but that doesn't mean you have to forget.

 Three comments:

Ashlynn Wright: I agree very much. I think we should keep a positive outlook on the terrible things that are going on right now. We should trust that the Lord has a plan and we should keep our faith and trust in him. We have to keep our heads up.

Tiffany Fulcher: I am so sorry that you have had to live with that pain. But, I agree with what you said. It is important to always love our parents and our loved ones. I don't know your dad, but I know he is one lucky man to have daughters like you and Brittany. Y´all are both amazing people and have made huge impacts on my life, and so many other people's lives, in ways neither of you will understand.

James Dean Barnett: I can relate to you. Both of my parents have always been there for me and have given me everything I could need or want. They are amazing parents and have supported me through everything. We are truly blessed to have parents like we have.

Determination

Throughout my life I've always felt like there are specific qualities you should have. The most important to me is determination. Determination is a huge aspect in anything you attempt to do in life. For me, determination has played a huge role in school, baseball, and even small things like getting my drivers license.
I feel as if everybody needs determination in order to survive in this crazy world. I can speak from experience. I played on my favorite baseball team ever, the Thunder, for a few years. We were a great team and went to the championship each year. The whole team had determination. We were bridesmaids for back to back years, but that lit a fire under us. We had even more determination to come back the next year and win the championship.
I also believe right now is a perfect time for determination. Us, the senior class, have to be the most determined we've ever been right now. What I feel like has been an overreaction to the coronavirus has caused our senior seasons in baseball and softball to basically be canceled. We have to be very determined to have at least one more day in class together and at least one more ballgame before we have to hang it up.

Trust me when I say that I've seen my share of bad days, weeks, and months. With that being said this leads me to believe that tomorrow will be better than yesterday. I remember doing really bad on a test in the second grade. At the time I thought that my world was over and I was going to be a second-grade dropout. Now I'm about to graduate high school not only with my diploma but also with my associate's degree. I broke my ankle in the sixth grade and thought that I would never play basketball again. I was fortunate enough to go to the state tournament and even get to the finals. My mom was diagnosed with Leukemia, had to go through chemo, and stayed in the hospital for about a year. She's now in remission and at home.
Sure things today aren't great the coronavirus is spreading quick, there were those bushfires in Australia. These things are awful but imagine how great it'll be when there is a vaccine for the virus, and the fires have officially been contained. I don't know what tomorrow holds, but what if the cure for cancer is found, or you win the lottery.
Some days will be rough, sometimes it might even feel like the world is ending. However, there will be good things to follow. You also have to be hopeful for better days too. Seek the good in every situation, and enjoy the little wins. There will be days where believing that tomorrow will be better will pay off. Be optimistic for the future because great things are coming. So believe me when I say tomorrow will be better than yesterday.

This I Believe - Briley Douglas

Throughout my teen years, fear has crippled me. I have been scared to try new things, scared to put myself out there, and scared to be my true self. When the opportunity would arise to step out of my comfort zone, the fear of being judged would stop me in my tracks and have me retreat back. I have always been jealous of those who live their life with no worry about what others may think. They do what makes them happy and they’re proud to be who they are. This should be a way of living for everyone. I believe that everyone should strive to get out of their comfort zone and live life to the fullest.
For years I was okay with staying in the safe limits of my comfort zone, but one day it changed. I didn’t have a life-changing event that made me reevaluate my life, I simply decided that I was tired of being discontent with my life and was in need of a change. People are so quick to complain about their life
and do nothing to fix it, and I wasn’t going to be one of those people. I made up my mind that I was going to surround myself with friends who truly made me happy, be who I want to be, and stop settling for less. I started to make small changes in my life. Instead of feeling like I had to be friends with everyone, I made my friend group smaller. I started to read more because I love to read but used to be scared of what others would think of me. Daily, I continue to try new things,  become more confident in myself, and strive to live my life to the fullest because I know I’m not promised tomorrow.
Life’s too short to hold back out of fear. If you want to wear revealing outfits, then wear them and be proud. If you want to wear clothes that are two sizes too big, then wear them and be proud. Don’t let the words of others stop you from being yourself. Don’t be afraid to speak out about what you believe in out of fear of upsetting others. No matter what you say someone will disagree with you, so speak your mind and speak it loudly. You’re never promised tomorrow so stop safety netting your life and settling for lukewarm. We are only given a limited time on this Earth, so why not live a life we deserve.

Discipline is quite regularly found as the most important thing parents need to teach their children. There are many reason why this is. One reason it is important to have discipline is because it leads to knowing right from wrong, and good from bad. When a person knows what is right, but yet does the wrong thing it is known as being undisciplined. Being disciplined as a kid sets you up for the rest of your life.Personally, discipline is something that I strive to excel myself in everyday. I try to show up on time, no matter how hard it is. This includes getting up at 5:30AM for a baseball workout, or showing up to practice afterschool on time. Discipline can be found not only in sports, but also in schools all around. Kids can show discipline by showing up to class on time, but also using that class time wisely, learning but also not disturbing others. Discipline is not only important in children though, it is also important in adults. When adults stop showing up to work on time, they are often wrote up, or punished. Several accounts for this can cause a loss of a job. Discipline also comes into paying bills. An undisciplined adult will typically buy unnecessary stuff like expensive vehicles and big houses when they really can’t afford them. Throughout every aspect of life, discipline is important. It can lead to better students, learners, workers and parents. Discipline keeps you focused on your goals, and keeps you from giving up at every bump in the road. It can make a better society and a happier place to live.

Be Kind-

As we go through our lives, we face many challenges. Sometimes these challenges can alter our attitude to where we can be cruel towards others. But as we go through life, we need to remember that we are not the only one going through hard times. Other people have parents going through divorces. Other people suffer from debilitating illnesses. Other people go through losses of loved ones. Other people suffer through heartbreak, whether from a significant other or from broken friendships. Other people suffer, so remember that and be kind.
I remember a significant moment at the end of the last school year. I was going through a really hard time with my health, my parents, and my friend group. I just couldn't hold in my tears anymore. So I raised my hand and ran to the bathroom. I broke down in tears and was having a full-on meltdown in the high school bathroom. All of a sudden, a girl walked in and saw me crying. I was so embarrassed and was ready to call my mom to pick me up from school. No one but my mom has ever seen me cry like that before, let alone a girl I've never seen before in my life. Instead of brushing me off or leaving, she looked at me and asked me what was wrong. I don't remember exactly what I said, but instead of her saying she was sorry and wished she could help me, she just asked if she could give me a hug. I accepted, and I felt cared for. It might sound strange, a random stranger in the girls bathroom giving me a hug, but it was so warm. I'll never forget her and her kindness towards me. It's the simple acts of kindness like that. Being kind instead of having snotty attitudes and cold stares is the key to happiness. Not only if you're the one going through a tough time, if you help someone with their hard time it can also make you feel good.

The Power of Being Positive

There are always points in your life that cause you to have a negative outlook. Whether it be a close relative passing away, you getting bad grades in school, or something isn’t going right in your life. Like all humans, I’ve had those points, but I believe that we should always try our best to be positive.
With all of the problems going on in the world, positivity is key. Social media has a big impact on teenagers. With teenagers constantly being on social media, they see the things happening with the newly discovered virus in the United States. The virus has caused a negative outlook on the world and people are starting to go crazy. To all of the seniors in high school, we may never attend a class in our school again. Our last prom may be cancelled, as well as, our graduation that we have worked hard for, for 13 long years. All of these things will more than likely cause us to have a negative outlook on what is to come in the future. I believe that we need to keep our positivity, and make the best of what we have.
