Yorkies -Ambria Curtis

Earlier this year, around February, I got a Yorkshire Terrier (yorkie). Her name is Zoey, she is about 4 or 5 years old. My dad likes Star Wars so he calls her Zobi Wan Kenobi. My parents didn't want a dog in the house, but he got her anyways. My brother was supposed to be babysitting her for a couple of weeks but, then she was given to us. I wanted to learn more about yorkies, so I did some research about them.
Yorkies have hair, not fur
They don't shed because they have a single layer of fine fur
They do however lose hair
They can have floor length coats
They love squeaky toys
In 1949, only 173 Yorkies were registered by the AKC. In 2007, they were the 6th most registered breed by the AKC
They have an instinct to hunt and kill mice
They bark at loud or strange noises (Zoey barks at the smallest noises)
They rank in the top 10 most popular breeds in the United States
They shouldn't be left unattended or alone outside because of coyotes or large birds
A Yorkie has been a war hero! In World War II, an American soldier found a female Yorkie in a foxhole.  He named her Smokey and she became one of the first ever therapy dogs, traveling all over the world entertaining soldiers with her antics
Yorkies can be litter box trained (I didn't know any dog could be litter box trained)
Yorkies are usually 4 inches long and weigh anywhere from 3.5-5.5 oz. when born
Over the years, different Yorkies have held titles with the Guinness Book of World Records for world’s smallest dog (I thought Chihuahuas were smaller dogs than Yorkies)
When a Yorkie is pregnant they can only carry 1-4 puppies at a time because of their size
They can be difficult to house train
There is no such thing as a "Tea cup Yorkie"
Yorkies are known for their strong sense of loyalty
They have fragile bones
Most Yorkies enjoy swimming
In case you didn't know, Yorkie stands for Yorkshire Terrier
