I have been in band ever since I was in seventh grade. I as
first interested in band because Mr. Alsup was one my favorite teachers. So on
the first day of seventh grade I went into his class. Band was either third or
fifth period back then. I came in and sat down with my friends. Then he asked
what instruments we might want to play, I had no idea. So, Mr. Alsup introduced
me to the flute and had me try it. At first I couldn’t even make a sound on it.
But then after practicing and trying I did it. I was so excited to be able to
play a song. I was ready to learn all the notes and put them together, and make
music. I love band, it is so fun to be able to learn new songs and perform
them. Performing is nerve racking but fun at the same time. My friends and I get
to go to different places and perform with each other. I met many of my friends
in band. This is great because we get to go on trips together. Which since I have
moved up to the high school band, everyone in band has been a friend. This is
because I see them every day, go on trips with them, perform with them, watch
basketball games with them, and rely on them during performances. If one person
in the band messes up, everyone can usually tell. Each person in the band has a
part to play and support. Band is also like a family, they support you and want
you to succeed. I love band, fundraisers, performing, and the places we go. I love
raising money for new instruments, t- shirts, and the big trip we take at the
end of the year. If we raise enough money we get to go to Branson. We take a
bus from the school at about five o’clock in the morning. Then we head to
Branson where we get to perform to win plaques and medals. Then after, we eat a
packed lunch and spend the rest of the day at the park. We leave the park about
five o’clock. Then we head home, eat, and arrive back at the school about
eleven. Band is more than a class, and I love it.
