Jobs part two out of four # 6 --Jo Baker-

So far I've told you about how I want to be a Tattoo Artist when I get older. Now I want to tell you about the second career I hope to pursue. I feel like I would be able to really find myself in this line of work. I love to look at all the designs of buildings and different structures. I love to see how everything comes together. This is why I feel like I would love to do Architecture.
Architects are licensed professionals that design buildings and different kinds of structures. There are many things an architect must consider when making design plans for any structure. Here are a few things they have to consider : safety regulations, length, building codes, space, construction costs, and functionality. When employed, an architect normally works in an office developing design plans. They will often consult with their clients on the project. Although they are not always in the office. Most of the time they will go to the construction site to confirm that everything is going according to plan and there aren't any bumps in the road. Architects will either work for a firm or be self-employed working for themselves.
An architect has many duties. An architect has to be involved the entire time in the building project. They begin by determining these factors with their client : budget, design requirements, project site, length, function. After they finish making these important decisions and making the overall building plan they will watch over the progress of the project. Often along the way they will confer with other professionals like these : landscape architects, interior designers, construction contractors, and engineers. As the architect in charge of the project you may also be put in charge of other responsibilities such as building inspections, tests, and making sure all workers involved get paid.
There are a few requirements you have to meet in order to get the job. You have to have a license from your state's architect registration board. The ways you have to get this license vary from state to state. Overall you need to pass a license exam, complete an internship, and contain a professional architecture degree. It may seem like only a couple things but it's a lot of work.
Along with job requirements you have education requirements to that you have to meet. You have to obtain a bachelor of architecture professional degree or a ( B.ARCH ). There are over 120 colleges and universities across the U.S where you can get this degree. Normally with these programs it takes three years to get this degree. And these programs are normally meant for people who don't have any prior knowledge or education on architecture. Your curriculum may focus on things like practice and theory topics like these to get you ready. Ex. building design, computer-aided design, structural systems, and construction materials.
Most states require you to do an internship or period of practical training. As long as they meet the requirements set by the Intern Development Program (IDP). This program was created by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Normally you will complete these programs after three years. during these three years you will work under the supervision of a professional registered architect.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in 2013 an architect in general made an average salary of $79,650 per year. And architects that work mainly on buildings and other non-residential places brought in a total of $74,560 on average a year. The difference of money between the two isn't a very big one. But for me, this job is one I hope I'm able to do. I love art and I think this is a good way to use my art in the world.
