Senior Camp 2016 Harrison McCall #8

Every June for a week I journey out to my special home away from home in Redfield, Arkansas. I go there for Sr. Camp, which is a church camp hosted by the UPCI. During camp is one of the few times out of the year when I get to hang out with all my friends from Bono (plus Trent this time) so that means three things will definitely happen: Lots of card games, many hours spent huddled under an AC in the camper, and someone will inevitably “break out the laughing gas” (which is a time period of uncontrollable laughter that will last for minutes). This year was no exception. I probably spent more time playing mafia, trash, or war than I did sleeping that week. Unlike usual I didn’t go watch any of the softball games. I’m not sure if it was because no one from the Bo City youth group was playing or the fact that the little feels like part of the weather app almost constantly read 100+ degrees. Though we had no sportsball players we did have someone from our youth group make it into the second round of Arkansas’s Got Talent, which is a talent competition we do at camp every year. A big part of camp besides hanging out with friends, indulging in snow cones, and sweating every time you stepped outside were the services, which this year were second to none. The worship was amazing, the preaching phenomenal, and the alter calls were so unbelievably powerful. The last night after the alter call was mostly over I went and sat on the front row and just tried to absorb as much of that moment as possible. You could look around and see people slain in the Holy Ghost scattered across the ground, other being guided or carried to their dorms. It was an atmosphere that you couldn’t just walk away from. There was a certain presence of God that swept over the campgrounds that week and it is something I will probably never forget. All in all, the camp was great and I can’t wait to see what is in store for next year.

  1. Sounds like you had a lot of fun and I hope that it is that fun for the next two years (or one year, since it is a youth camp I assume the summer after you graduate will be your last). I had a similar experience when I went to my summer church camp, Super Summer. It was amazing seeing how God moved through the huge crowd and called on many of his children to accept him into their hearts. I hope everything works out in the next couple of summers and the camps are always great. Keep up the great writing and have a great school year.
