a series of summer haikus -- karlee sanders

gosh darn I'm sunburnt

bring me the aloe vera

I am a lobster

walking outside is

like hell come to life on earth

it's so stinking hot

those flowers are cute

too bad they'll die without rain

too hot to water them

an ode to back sweat

I hate you so very much

stains on my shirt, ew

this pool feels so good

I have to get out because

that kid is peeing

air conditioning

if you go out I'll kill you

you aren't a person

I need a hammock

so I can sit outside in

a sack of nice shade

someone tell the frogs

to shut up or else I'll croak

that was a pun ha

why am I so white

I can't seem to get a tan

my life is so sad

so much for long hair

can you please just shave my head

I'll pay a dollar

all my friends have jobs

I'm so lonely in my house

all alone I'm sad

summer assignment

I can't make myself do it

actually I lied

I had a bonfire

in ninety degree weather

I am so stupid

the best part about

summer is my cool birthday

I am queen of all

wasn't I supposed

to get hot this summer? dude,

I'm a potato.

I woke up to a

pool of sweat after my nap

isn't summer great

haven't wore makeup

in a week. my skin is so

freckly and nice wow.

I have forgotten

all I learned in Conner's class.

oh my gosh I'm dumb

it makes me mad that

I cannot wear shorts to church

my legs are Satan

ice cream is so good

popsicles are so good too

I love them so much

why does back to school

come to most stores in July?

this is an outrage

I eat barbecue

about nine thousand times

throughout the summer

soon the nice green grass

will be all crunchy and hard

summer will be gone

warm weather is great

but if you go to the store

please put some clothes on

my worst fear is that

someone will see my pit stains

but everyone sweats

  1. I absolutely loved reading this! You're a great writer! I think I can relate to about ninety percent of it, ha! I think my favorite part in this was the pun that you used, "someone tell the frogs to shut up or else I'll croak that was a pun ha" It made me laugh a lot. I did laugh multiple times throughout reading it to though. I think you definitely caught the essence of summer as well as a few other things!82 Anyway, I enjoyed reading this a lot. Definitely very funny, relatable, and interesting. You've done a great job Karlee! -- Jo Baker-10

I'm really late on reading all of your posts, but I'm really glad I decided to go back and read them. You're a great writer and I really admire you. You make me smile, and I'm really lucky to have you as my friend. I love you and I thank you for writing and making me happy and being a good friend. Thank you for also being yourself and staying true to who you are! Keep on writing, I'm ready to see you!
