Abby Brickell's First Blog Post of the Summer
So it's 1:15 a.m., and I remembered that I have a summer assignment. I hope everyone is having a great summer, even though it's just started. So far, I've went to Craighead Forest Park almost everyday, read, painted, and have done nothing productive since we've been out of school. I need to get a job, but I can't exactly get the one I want till I become of age. I have to wait till I turn sixteen in two excruciatingly slow months. It probably sounds very childish of me to wait, but if I'm going to get a job I want to enjoy doing it. One thing I've enjoyed lately is painting. For those of you who didn't know, I paint my bedroom walls. I first started doing it sometime last year when I didn't have a canvas in the house, and noticed that my four blank walls would be perfect for murals. This week, I wanted my "art" to have meaning, so tonight I decided to paint quotes from my favorite novels. Well, only quotes from the novels I have in my room, and one quote from the play: The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. The quote from the play was, "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves." If you took one look at my room, you'd notice a common theme:stars. I think my recent love for stars has something to do with me finishing reading, "Love, Stargirl." It's the sequel to one of my favorite books, "Stargirl." It has really changed me, but my inspiration changes constantly. I'll probably get tired of the star theme soon, and find a new inspiration to start working on. After all, I have all summer. My murals are the first thing I see in the morning, and the last thing I see before I go to sleep. Sometimes I wonder, why didn't I leave my walls one plain color? That's what the normal thing is to do. You're supposed to leave your walls blank, and cover them with temporary decor. I wonder why I can't keep one basic theme. Then I realize, there's no fun in that.
