Abby Brickell's First Blog Post of the Summer

So it's 1:15 a.m., and I remembered that I have a summer assignment. I hope everyone is having a great summer, even though it's just started. So far, I've went to Craighead Forest Park almost everyday, read, painted, and have done nothing productive since we've been out of school. I need to get a job, but I can't exactly get the one I want till I become of age. I have to wait till I turn sixteen in two excruciatingly slow months. It probably sounds very childish of me to wait, but if I'm going to get a job I want to enjoy doing it. One thing I've enjoyed lately is painting. For those of you who didn't know, I paint my bedroom walls. I first started doing it sometime last year when I didn't have a canvas in the house, and  noticed that my four blank walls would be perfect for murals. This week, I wanted my "art" to have meaning, so tonight I decided to paint quotes from my favorite novels. Well, only quotes from the novels I have in my room, and one quote from the play: The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.  The quote from the play was, "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves." If you took one look at my room, you'd notice a common theme:stars. I think my recent love for stars has something to do with me finishing reading, "Love, Stargirl." It's the sequel to one of my favorite books, "Stargirl." It has really changed me, but my inspiration changes constantly. I'll probably get tired of the star theme soon, and find a new inspiration to start working on. After all, I have all summer. My murals  are the first thing I see in the morning, and the last thing I see before I go to sleep. Sometimes I wonder, why didn't I leave my walls one plain color? That's what the normal thing is to do. You're supposed to leave your walls blank, and cover them with temporary decor. I wonder why I can't keep one basic theme. Then I realize, there's no fun in that.

  1. Hey Abby! I just got finished reading your post. I really like the idea that you’re waiting to get a job you enjoy because it’s a good idea to find a job you enjoy instead of getting a job you don’t and getting stress from it. I wish you luck with that. I also really, really like how you’re painting murals in your room, that’s really cool. Especially since its from different books, that’s the art of inspiration lol. I think that it’s a good idea and that you’re keeping your inspiration up and painting still. Keep that up. I wish you luck on that too. You’re really talented, maybe you should start posting your art on a blog on Facebook? Also, on the mention of your star theme it made me grin because it reminded me of my aesthetic phase that’s going on currently. I’ve been making a lot of aesthetics lately of characters and of people I know. I hear you there lol. Well, this is all I can say. Wow I haven’t made comments on things since Facebook. I hope you have a good summer. And I really really hope I didn’t awkwardly phrase anything. Lol. - Tatum

  2. Hey Abby! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that slightly forgot about the summer assignment! So far I am having a great summer! Even though you say you haven’t done anything productive, it sounds like you have been really busy relaxing, I understand how you feel about getting a job! I was going to get one but I left for Wisconsin and I don’t have my original birth certificate to get my ID. I don’t think it sounds childish of you to wait! I would rather wait and get a job I enjoy rather than get a job I wouldn’t like. I bet your room looks so pretty! I can’t paint or draw to save my life! I love the quote you chose from the play: The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. That’s the thing with teenagers though! We can’t ever stick to one theme! I have to leave my walls the boring color of white because we aren’t allowed to paint them. Since, I can’t paint my room I’m constantly changing the decor. I hope you are having a great summer so far!

  3. Hey Abby, it's your girl Klo. I read you blog like two days ago and for some reason my peanut brain can't remember what your blog said so, hold up. Let me scroll up and review it.......... oh yeah, you've bee to Craighead Forest Park. Sounds like a lot of fun. I bet you put up your ENO and read. I bet you got lonely setting in a hammock and reading all by yourself. Unless, you took someone with you. Which reminds me. Didn't I request an ENO date? I think so. Maybe we should put that into play. My ENO sets in my room and collects dust. Oh well. Anyway, I don't know how many words this is, and the chance of me counting them are slim, but who knows, I may. Changing subjects, im gonna tell my mom that hanging pictures on my walls aren't fun and maybe she will by me some paint to slap on them. Well, of course it's going to be beautiful paintings. Wait... are stick figures considered beautiful paintings?
