Music is so much more than music and lyrics. It has meaning, or it should have meaning. It takes more than just rhyming some words with some music. Music can be so helpful in the lives of so many. Music has always been something I can count on for almost anything.
Music has a very unique history. The different genres, the different beats. Everything has evolved and changed in so many ways. Listening to music from previous years to present day, you will see the huge difference.
In today's music there is no substance. All music use to have a background, have a meaning. Now, music is just words put with some music, and as long as it rhymes or says something probably inappropriate everyone's gonna love it. I'm guilty of singing along and blaring this music, but i miss the good music.
The creativity of music is dead. No one cares about the lyrics or the meaning of the song, as long as the song has a good beat that can blow your speakers, some trashy lyrics, and a singer that probably has “lil” in front of their name, then the song will probably make it on the charts. The saddest part about everything I just said, is that 75% of the time it’s the truth. There really shouldn’t be truth to that, all music should have something of its own.
The artists don’t have to work as hard. Nowadays someone gets a beat or a melody and everyone else takes it like they came up with it. Usually put a twist of their own somewhere, but its all the same. No one is original anymore. Just like Marvin gaye's song “got to give it up” was stolen by Pharrell and Robin Thicke for the song “blurred lines”, which caused them to pay Marvin gaye's family $7.3 million.
It is so crazy how it's rare to find originality these days with music. The artist that everyone obsess with don’t even write their own songs. They have is so good, they get paid to sing and dance to songs that they didn’t have to work for because its all done for them. No one cares these days if it means anything, if there's a background that makes the song so much greater. A song can’t mean anything to someone, if it has no meaning behind it.
Don’t get me wrong, though. There is still good music out there now, still people who have reasons for their music. Some people don’t give two cents about their music, because they aren’t all over the radio, or they aren’t playing at the CMA’s or AMA’s. They do exist, and musicians who don’t care about being number one on the charts, but more about what their music is, are way more important. For example, I’m sure no one that will ever read this has heard about Turnpike Troubadours, American Aquarium, what about Jason Isbell? Those names are just talent.
Music should be something that moves us, makes us feel something. It shouldn’t be words you can’t pronounce or something you have no clue what it means. It should help you, move you, make you feel alive.
These days, if your music is played on the radio all the time, or your previewed on Instagram, and everyone is talking about your music , then it means something to everyone. Does it really though? Or does it only mean something to you because it means something to someone else? Or because it’s the thing to listen to
In my opinion, for a song to mean something to you, you first have to understand what means to the song writer. Just like the ones that have other people write their songs for them, they then don’t have the feeling that went behind the music. It’s really a pattern, because the person singing the song can’t feel the music if they don’t understand the music, and you won’t be able to feel anything either if the singer isn’t feeling it.
Most of the time a songwriter will also sing their own music, but nobody listens to them or cares about their music. Just like Luke Bryan, he doesn’t write all of his music. But to me, watching someone performs their own music is a whole different level. You know when someone is feeling the music, the lyrics, the melody. You can see it in the way they sing, the way they move.
Music back then was so much better, i’m not saying music isn’t good now. All music is good, in different perspectives, but some music is better. Most of artist that sing older music, write their music and feel their music. Music is more rich when someone knows and has felt the song before they sang the song.
Music helps me so much, it helps I personally love music, music of all genres, and I can’t hate on any type of music, but personally people should appreciate older music for what it is. No one understands how great and how much work is put into older music.
I agree with you for the most part. I do think a lot of music today has no meaning or is about the same subject. However, the thing I think is the biggest problem is not the fact that it has no meaning, it's the fact there is hardly any effort to the songs that are written. Also with auto tune, people do not need a lot of talent. Older music did no have auto tune, so to get popular you needed real talent.
