Life is Short
The average person lives to be 79 years old, so that means my senior class is 61-62 years away from passing away. That being said, I can safely say I do not know most of you guys' middle names or even birthdays and I probably never will. This kind of bothers me because I can't imagine myself going out and making new friends outside of our class or school but I know I will have to soon because I won't be seeing or speaking to most of you real soon. I believe that we need to start putting ourselves out there more.
This past summer I attended a medical camp at ASU for a week. Before I even got there I had a mental break down in the parking garage because the directs were wrong and I couldn't find the entrance to the camp. When I finally got into the camp and settled in, I found out my roommate didn't show up (thank god). We did a few activities and I didn't really talk then we went to supper. I got my food and sat down by myself, not long after my counselors sat by me and it hit me, I was that camper. The camper that the camp counselors felt bad for. It was so embarrassing I thought I would pass away. But then my savior came in the form of a teenage girl named Alexia. She had recognized the shirt I was wearing (a Riverside shirt) and asked if I knew Zeke Hill. I told her yeah and we talked a bit, I soon found out she was my suitemate along with a girl named Macy.
Many, many months later as I was snapchatting Macy to wish her a happy birthday, I realized that if it had not been for Alexia knowing Zeke, I probably would not have talked to her or Macy or any of the other people I did. Due to me not putting myself out there, I almost did not get meet girls that soon became good friends of mine. I believe that people should always put themselves out there so that they do not miss out on experiences.
I'm so glad you found someone to talk to! I remember when I was in a similar situation and I was alone and afraid (actually when I was new to Riverside). Once you put yourself out there, it definitely makes a difference in your life. -Zoe
