Why Everyone Should Have a Pet -- Karlee Sanders

Anatole France once said, “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” I am under the opinion that everyone should own a pet. Whether it be a cat, dog, mouse, snake, or pet elephant, everyone should absolutely have one. Pets are entertaining, loyal, and they reduce stress.
Pets provide hours upon hours of endless entertainment. Just like people, they are constantly showing off their quirks and personalities. Common pets like cats and dogs are known best for their constant entertainment. These animals often have special personalities, and they aren’t afraid to show them off. But, some uncommon pets like snakes and birds have also been known to be entertaining. I guess it’s all in the type of pet you choose! This is just one of the many reasons everyone should own a pet.
Moving on, pets also are loyal. Sometimes the people in your life let you down and leave. Pets, however, would never do that to you. A pet’s owner is all that a pet has. Think about that, if you only had one person in your life that provided for you and loved you for who you are, would you ever want to leave them? Of course not! That’s exactly why pets are so great! When people let you down, you can turn to your pet for emotional support.
Lastly, everyone in the entire universe (Yes, that includes aliens, because why not?) should have a pet because they reduce stress. We live in a fast paced world where stress is very prevalent in our everyday lives. Coming home to a pet that is super happy to see you can relieve the stress of your workday. Pets can listen to you vent about your stress without judgement, and that can help you become more relaxed. Pets also help keep your mind off of other stuff because they need to be fed, loved, bathed, and generally taken care of all the time.
So, as you can see, pets are great. Everyone should have a pet of their own! Any animal can be entertaining, loyal, and help reduce stress!

  1. Right now and for the next week, I not only have my two little dogs but my ex-husband's two dogs, one of which is a lab. So, while they are cute and entertaining and loyal, four dogs in the house is not a stress reliever but quite the opposite. I do, however, agree with you that people should have pets. A list of pets I've had over the last few years: one cat that gave us ringworms, two dogs, two guinea pigs, a snake (1 day until my dad found out), six or seven large goldfish in my pond, several turtles and a loud-mouthed bullfrog that hangs out in my pond with the fish.

  2. My family has two dogs. A blue heeler and a lab puppy. Both are very obedient dogs. The blue heeler is really my dog and is very comforting. I think he senses when I'm upset or stressed and always tries to do something to make it better. However, when he was a puppy and wasn't house trained he drive me insane. He was always breaking something or chewing something up. Overtime though, he has become very entertaining, loyal, and a stress reliever. So I definitely agree with you. Pets are sometimes a lot more reliable and comforting than most people. -Hattie

  3. Karlee, I agree with what you said. I have a cat named Silver(who is actually gray, but whatever). I have had her since I was around six years old. My dad brought her home in a soda box and I thought she was a raccoon that my dad had caught for supper(I had a very colorful imagination, we didn't eat raccoons I promise). But, it was indeed a kitten. I named her Silver because she is mostly gray. Silver was a very lovable cat that I spent a lot of time with. But now, she's very feisty and rude, so we don't let her out very often. Anyways, pets are pretty cool. -Faith Brooks
