Overthinking

       Overthinking

           Ashlynn Crews
Imagine this: you’re in a room crowded full of people yet all you can think about is what happened two years ago or what might happen an hour from now. You see, that’s how it is for those who spend most of their time thinking. If you ever wonder what an over thinker is, you could point at me and I would be it. In this horrible overthinking world, inside my head, I literally over analyze everything. A “normal” person may think about her next meal or next oil change but an over thinker’s mind goes way beyond those tiny everyday moments or tasks. Inside my mind, I’m more than likely thinking about what I’m going to say to Barbara Lou or whoever twenty years from now or what I might have said wrong to her last week, and it will defiantly keep me up at night. What most people fail to realize is that over analyzers (like me) will take your words home with them. Your words will have followed them around all day, and those words follow them all the way home. Then, those same very words that followed them home will lie down beside them in bed, causing them to create, in their head, every possible negative scenario. They will study your words 148 times before they actually fall asleep. Overthinking truly causes your head to do this weird thing; it causes the mind to create negativity that shouldn’t even be there. Over thinking is thinking into a microscope. Honestly, for me, over thinking has become a blessing and a curse. On days where I can’t stop thinking about an upcoming test, then I guess it’s a blessing. On the other hand, when I can’t stop thinking about something someone has said to me, it’s more than likely an awful curse. Most of those who have experienced overthinking get used to it, it becomes an everyday ritual... well, not always, but you know that I mean. Just remember, “Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not wonder, not imagine, not obsess. Just breathe and have faith that everything will work out for the best”.

  1. I am the same way when it comes to sleeping at night, overthinking everything that someone tells me, or what I'm going to do about the next day. I can say that I strongly agree with what you say.

  2. I strongly agree with you. Overthinking is also a problem for me as well. I really like the quote at the end. - Kristin Helms

  4. I can relate to this as well, Ash. Overthinking is something I have struggled with since I was a child. Sometimes I get to overthinking and then I think so much about my overthinking I start feel guilty because there are so many people who have it so much worse. I don't know that any advice will help but something I try to think of whenever I am in a state of over examination of the small things in life is John 14:27 "I am leaving you with a gift-peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don't be troubled or afraid." (NLT)
