I’m sure most everyone has heard about the Duck Boat disaster. Everyone that goes to Branson usually goes because of the Duck Boat ride, but I think many people will have second thoughts about going. The weekend that my sister was playing in Paris, Tennessee was when I first heard about the incident. There were thirty people on the bout. There was a family of eleven from Indianapolis, Indiana, and only two survived the crash. There were five Missouri natives that were killed in the crash also. A father and son from Osceola, Arkansas was also killed, along with one person from Illinois. Seventeen of the thirty people that were on the boat died including the captain. The weather was not very suitable for the the boat to be out on the water. There was a pretty good sized storm heading their way. The captain had told the people on the boat that they didn’t necessarily need their life jackets, and that they could put it on if they wanted to. This information is coming from a video that my mom and I had watched on Facebook. I didn’t know what to expect when I started watching the video. I think maybe two minutes and thirty seconds into the video, the waves started getting bigger and bigger. The wind was blowing so hard in the video. You would have thought that when they noticed the waves started getting bigger they would’ve turned back to where they were coming from or tried to get to the shore that was the closest to them. That didn’t happen, the captain kept trying to stay on route. The nose of the boat would hit the waves as the captain was driving the boat. You would have thought that the captain would turn the boat around. Then the boat started taking on water, which was when the boat started sinking.

  1. I was also very saddened to hear about the Duck Boat. That really is a scary thought. My mom has always hated the idea of those boats because of the incident that happened at Lake Hamilton, which is where our condos are. Every time we pass one on the road in Hot Springs or when we drive by one while we’re out on the lake, she always tells us not to get on one because the roof on them causes them to be dangerous. The incident on Lake Hamilton was pretty devastating too because 13 people died. I still feel so bad for the families who have been hurt by these type of accidents. - mcheese

  2. It was hard hearing about the duck boat accident because I can remember all the times I’ve asked my parents to take me on them. The accident happened the week before my sister played in branson, and the following week we were there, the victims cars were still parked at the lot with flowers all over them. It’s difficult to believe the people who were on the boat didn’t know that a fun sight seeing activity would result in so many deaths. My mom told me how they were trapped in the boat because of the top and that the windows were electric so when the electricity went out they were unable to open the windows.
