World's Greatest Philosopher - Jon C. / Post #3

Things have been as slow as ever, if not slower. I've literally spent the last few days laying on the couch watching TV, because I have nothing better to do. I think that I'm going to get into game design instead of doing that summer to-do list, as I can't think of enough things that would make it interesting On top of that, making a video game sounds like a lot more fun. Now, with nothing better to talk about I guess I should talk about how I've been learning ancient war tactics, or rather the philosophy of war. A quote that swirls around in my head often is, "All war is based on deception. - Sun Tzu.".  There's something so engaging about the art of war, and how great leaders and generals have inspired men to take entire countries with mere words alone. And it's not even war that inspires me, it the notable people from the past that is so intriguing. Diogenes was an ancient Greek philosopher who had a great effect on philosophy in ancient times. He was a homeless man who lived in a barrel in the streets of Athens, after he and his family was kicked out of Sinope, or a Greek state. After his family had died, he moved to the streets of Athens and became a beggar, often trading his wisdom for coin. Diogenes was known for his boldness, going so far as to spit in the face of a noble when invited over for dinner, then saying, "In a rich man's house, there is no place to spit but his face.". He had also mentored Alexander the Great, or the guy that ruled at one point most of the eastern continent. One of the exchanges that the two had together was, " If I were not Alexander the Great, I would wish to be Diogenes, " which prompted Diogenes to say, "If I were not Diogenes, I would also wish to be Diogenes.". This guys was legendary in his time, and he had a great impact on modern day philosophy. Anyways, that's enough rambling about history, I should be going now. Thank you for reading.

  1. Hey Jon! I enjoyed your blog with week for sure, It's interesting to find out what grabs people's interest in their lives. If you think that creating a game would be fun, then go for it! I've never been that into games, but now you've opened up my eyes to see how people can like them so much. We, as people in life, are all different so maybe a summer bucket list isn't your thing, and that's 100% okay because we are all different. I also like history, it's always been one of my favorite subjects, and I had no idea we had that in common!

  2. I just learned more in your spiel than in an entire year of AP World History. So kudos to you Jon, you always manage to teach me something somehow. But his name is weird looking and I don't know how parents back in those days managed to think of those names. Like why couldn't his name be Jake or something. Like Alexander, the Great had a normal name. That other guy had a name one has to put in google translate to understand how to pronounce it. I hope you write more educational posts like this one, kind of refreshing.
