Small Vacation - Jon C. / Post #7

I guess that my summer wasn't a total waste after all, I went on a small vacation to the lake. It was rather nice, I even have a few stories to tell you, but to meet the required word limit, I'm going to have to do some rambling, so bear with me for a moment. Let's talk about another one of history's greats, and the only Emperor that America has ever had. Joshua Abraham Norton was a hobo living on the streets of San Francisco during the year 1859. He simply wandered around the streets declaring himself, Emperor of these United States, a title that he had made up entirely. Now, the crazy part about this, is that the newspapers started writing about him, making him quite popular among the citizen of San Francisco. After a while, people just started treating like he was the Emperor of these United States, he had even started to make his own currency and collectible dolls, both of which became great collectors items. Anyways, I should talk about the vacation now. My friends Robert, Aidan, Austin, and I were staying in this cabin on the White River, and while I do call it a cabin, it was more of a shack. I mean, the cabin's inside could not have been bigger than my room at home, which is about twenty by twenty feet. Well, it could have been smaller, but the point is that, we only went to the cabin to sleep. The first time we left the cabin was to go kayaking down the White River, which destroyed my arms. I had no idea that it would have taken four hours of constant rowing just to complete it. On the second day, we decided to go hiking around the Lake, with was about three point seven miles point to point. Of course, it wouldn't have been that bad, if not for my shoe braking three miles away from the car. I had to walk across rocks and sticks barefoot, but I can only blame myself, because I only brought flip-flops on vacation. That about sums up my vacation, despite the kayaking and hiking, I actually had a really nice time.

  1. Does not surprise me that even though I originally thought this post was going to be about your mini vacation, and you started talking about history. I have always wondered how or where you store all this random information, but it is always interesting to hear. Always teaching, aren’t you Jon? Anyways, your vacation sounds like something I would enjoy but it seemed extreme for my liking. I mean come on seven miles with a broken shoe? Not signing up for that anytime soon. Maybe I could get on board with kayaking. Who knows. But I’m sure flip flops will not make the next trip to the lake.
