Elijah Couch 4 - the beach

Every year my family takes a beach trip usually to Fort Morgan, Alabama. This year we decided to change it up a little and go somewhere else. We ended up going to Panama City Beach in Florida. I have seen pictures of it before and it looked amazing. When we went though I wasn't impressed with it, the water wasn't clear and had seaweed everywhere, it was crowded and our house wasn't right on the water. At Fort Morgan the water was almost always clear, never crowded and our house was right on the water. Our choice of housing wasn't the greatest so I shouldn't blame that on the beach so that is on us. We could not go down to the beach and get in the water for three days because of the rip current, but I eventually calmed down and we were able to get in the water. I spent most of my time fishing or digging a hole. I have always dug a hole at the beach every year we came. My grandmother would start digging with me years ago and start singing about digging because she made up songs about everything. My mom thinks that is why I always dig a hole, like it's wired into my brain that I must dig a hole or the beach trip is ruined. There are two things that I loved about Panama though the fishing and no jellyfish at all. I thought it was hilarious when my brother, Seth, had been fishing all day and got absolutely nothing, keep in mind it is like three 'o clock in the afternoon, and I walk out there, cast out my line, wait for a few minutes and boom a fish gets on. I'm reeling and backing up, so that if it does get off the hook it would already on the beach, and I get it in and it's a little baby sand shark that ain't but about a foot or a foot and a half long. Seth was so mad because I wasn't really even trying and I caught one before he did and a shark at that. By the end of the trip I caught like four or five sharks, a catfish, and snagged a couple bait fish. It was a pretty good trip.

  1. Hey Elijah! I’m super jealous you got to go to PCB. I have wanted to so bad, but we always end up going to Destin or Seaside. I heard the rip currents were pretty bad this year. I had a friend go down there in the beginning of July. That’s funny that your grandma made up a song about digging holes. My grandma loved to sing too. She was always singing “Because he lived” or “I’ll fly away.” The fact that there are no jellyfish is cool. We went walking on the beach one day and we saw a little boy that had gotten stung by one. It was kinda funny if you ask me, but I felt bad for laughing cause I knew he was hurting. I would’ve been so mad if I were Seth too. haha. I guess I’ve never seen a little sand shark. My family is all girls so we don’t really fish so.. I’m glad you had a good trip though. See you tuesday! - alexis courtney #10

  2. Hey Elijah I have been to Panama City Beach a few times, and it did not impress me either. It is always so crowded. I am pretty sure it is labeled like the party beach. If we go to the beach we normally go to Destin. Which personally is my favorite. That sucks that you and your family go to the beach and could not get in for three days. Luckily I haven't experienced that on one of my beach trips yet. I have never dug a hole at the beach, but I might have to try it next time. Anyways I am glad you had a good trip. I will see you tuesday. ---Cailey Qualls
