there are 702 million people living in poverty.
780 million starving.
775 million adults (2/3 women) and 122 million children who are illiterate and the idea of an education is out of reach.
4 million women experiencing physical abuse or rape from their partners.
1 in 3 senior citizens dying from Alzheimer's or another form of dementia.
these statistics are a drop in the ocean that is global epidemics and we often think that we have no means of helping these people or that our contribution won't amount to anything in the grand scheme of things. this however is the farthest thing from the truth. in the technology ruled society we live in we are privy to so much more than those before us. there are apps like donate a photo where you simply pick a charity and take a photo (doesn't have to be of anything in particular or even of good quality) you donate it and automatically the Johnson & Johnson corporation will give a dollar to the charity you chose, such an easy way to make a life better! (24 photos pulls a child in India out of poverty guys!!!)
another amazing app with a purpose for the greater good is charity miles, you open the app, pick a charity and walk, run or bike and earn money for every mile :-)
you can do this while: exercising, Pokemon hunting, geocaching, shopping, or while we're walking the endless hallways of our school come August. Basically any time you spend moving can amount to so much more and make a monumental difference.
there are a plethora of other world changing routes you can take obviously, I just encourage you to choose one because the things we take for granted are luxuries that many others have never even experienced and its insanely easy for us to spread a little love
Sydney, your post really amazed me and spoke to me, you are absolutely right, everyone could try a little something just to make a change for the greater good. Honestly, the statistics blow my mind that that's what is actually going on in our society today. How did the world get this bad? I never would have thought that the world was that bad until now. This post honestly motivated me contribute to help out because it is sad what our society is coming to. It is really breaking my heart to see how many people are living in poverty. -Ambria Curtis
ReplyDeleteHey Sidney, I had no idea that there was ways as easy as this to help people. I think it's amazing that you can raise money and help people in need just by taking some pictures or open an app while being active doing everyday things. I had no idea it was that easy. I absolutely love this blog. We need more blogs like this one to show people just how easy it really is to help a good cause. I know I was astonished while reading this. You inspired me to want to help and be more involved. It's so sad to think about what is actually going on in the world. The statistics you stated also blew my mind as well. You did a really great job on this. --Jo Baker-20!!
ReplyDeleteDear Sydney,
ReplyDeleteThis is a really amazing thing that you chose to talk about.
It's really really important to give back just as much as God hands to you, if not more.
We are meant to be messengers of good deeds and inspire other people to do good in this world.
I think if we banned together and decided to do good things, maybe people would follow.
Charity is an important thing, and so are people like you.
I love you!!!
