Technology good or evil? Chloe Reese (5)

This year is 2016 and we have evolved a long way with technology. We have iPhones, drones, Google and even cars that park themselves. These are just a few of our many technological advances. But, is technology as we see it good or evil?
Yes, technology does help us do everything we need to do daily, but is that a good thing? We use our phones everyday. We use them to call people, see people, as calculators, calendars, clocks, navigators, weather men , and as photo albums. This is great and handy but it takes away from the use of our minds if you think about it. Don't get me wrong I love having my phone handy when I need something. But, we don't think twice when we need to do something, like add, we use our phones or when we need to know what time it is, we don't read clocks we just use our phone or when we need help with our homework, instead of trying ourselves we look it up. This isn't good people might say, but when we do need help to figure a question out, like how old was George Washington when he became president? We look it up and then we know which is great! By the way he was fifty-seven years old on April 30th in 1989 when he became president. I might have never known that if Google was easy to access. This helps us learn and understand different ideas. The only issue wrong with these abilities being easy to access is that we don't have to do much to be able to do so much. We don't have to go out and see our family to see if they are ok. This is sad, because there is at least half of my family I have never met. The only reason I know them is because of social media I can see their family and their lives. This is weird because it seems like I know them and have met them, but I haven't , which is why I believe technology is both good and evil at the same time.

  1. I 100% agree with you, Chloe. Yeah, we get to use our phones so much we don't even think about using them. The only thing I normally do with my phone anymore is for this blog, music, and getting ahold of some people. I absolutely HATE having to be on my phone all day. I have to find an alternative. I hate texting, so I normally make people call me if they either need something, or want to hangout. But I also think technology is bad because it interferes with how social we are. If it wasn't for this summer and me finally getting tired of my phone in my hand all of the time, I would never learned, or tried to learn how to socialize or how to interact with any sort of human being, I'm person that is. -Angel Cash

  2. I agree with you as well. As far as I am concerned technology is both the greatest help and hindrance in today's society. It is helpful in the fact that it makes hard to do problem easy and gives us access to an abundance of knowledge, that would otherwise be hard to find. There is however, a downside to these things. We become reliant on our technology to solve our problems for us instead of doing it ourselves, which you stated. Also with an easy access to information we find it easier to forget things, because it can always be googled again. I bet a week from now I will not remember that the first president was 57 when sworn into office. Harrison McCall #10

  3. Just like everything there's a good and bad side. Even to people! There are advantages and disadvantages, we just have to see what overrides the other and make a decision based on that. Sometimes I just wish that I had the power to put down my phone when I want to, but it seems as though I don't have it. Sometimes we just need to lay down the electronics and take a break from them.
