(This was inspired by tumblr where someone posted: "what if everything you see right now is just a hallucination caused by inhaling oxygen?")
Dear Reader,
This is the story about the world I loved. This is also the story of how I destroyed it, well the reality of it.
Breaking news!
Mankind has recently discovered that the world we live in is not real. For all of human history, we believed oxygen was a gas needed for life, but that wasn't the whole story. Everything we see in our consciousness is a hallucination caused by oxygen- the hallucination drug. About five months ago, a group of people from all over the world began to experience vivid dreams of another world. This world appeared to be too life-like. When we "woke up" it seemed the events occurring in the dreams actually happened. People who cut their hand in the "dream", woke up with the exact same cut. When people went missing in the dreams, they weren't found in our world either.
This group of people began to wonder what was going on. Then, one night, we all had the same dream. Citizens of a place we only went to in our sleep were explaining that our world wasn't real and that oxygen was the cause. They gave information on this hallucination drug. It became aware to us that there was only one to blame: our government.
The Alucinari, people who aren't aware of the truth about oxygen, believe that it is a silly conspiracy theory. But that is just what oxygen does to the brain. The people who aren't resistant to oxygen are instilled the mindset that everything in the world is fine. It locks their brains with invisible handcuffs, allowing no free thinking.
I, Ella Hayward, am one of the Conissant. We see past hallucinations, we know they are just that: hallucinations. We are not fooled by the government's plan. We are resistant to oxygen, but we still need it, and that traps us here. Conissants are on a search to get back to the world we belong, the place in our dreams. We are on a race escape before the government discovers our plans.
Each day we fight for our cause. As we race to discover a way to go back home, it brings out doubt in the world. Many Alucinari have listened to our case and were hit with realization. All over the world an awakening is beginning. The government is racing to stop this revolution, but the handcuffs are breaking off everyone's mind. People are now thinking for themselves.
Although we know the truth, we are still struck with questions. But the most troubling question is: why? Why would the government go to such lengths to keep us in this hallucinated world? Are we safer here? Is the place in our dreams all an illusion in itself? Is it really a torturous place the government is saving us from?
Is it really worth risking everything to go back to the place we belong?
I loved this story! It's one of those things that are possibly conspiracy theories, but also seem very really. What would we do if the oxygen we breathe became a device used to our own destruction? It's not like we could resist it, it's like we can rebel against a human need. What would we do? Maybe the government controls who we vote for, what we think, what we see, where we go, and what we do, with a basic necessity floating around in the air. This is a very intriguing possibility and story. It really gets me thinking. I love your writings, and I hope you're having a great summer, even though it's coming to a sad end. Anyways, thank you for sharing this with everyone. I'm ready to go back to school so we can talk and see eachother, I miss you!!!

I'm so glad you posted this! This is great, and you need to post the actual story now. Please! I love how you took a Tumblr post and are making a thing about it. It's really great, and I know you're gonna make something amazing with it, just like how you usually do. Keep writing, Kimi! Seriously, you're great at that. You should write a book. Make this an actual book.
ReplyDeleteI love reading about the things you post. You have a unique writing style, and even though I'm more of a sci-fi person, I like the things you write a lot. Seriously. They're creative, and sometimes inspire me to write. Keep it up!
