Chapter Three
"Terra! Terra!" A voice called out from the darkness. I rolled over on my bed and looked up at the ceiling. Suddenly, the light flickered on. Mason was standing at my door.
"Mason, what are you doing? Are you okay?" I asked. Mason was the sweetest kid here; there was no way he would just barge into my room.
"There's a person on the beach. They came from the Lost Sea. They washed up with the lost things," Mason called.
"I thought it was only lost objects that washed up on the shore?" I asked.
"Well, we say lost things because people never really wash up on the beach. But sometimes they do and that's how some of us got here. We have to go save her!"
"Wait, her?" I asked. Maybe that was the "her" from last night. Maybe the voices whispering in the dark knew she would come.
"Yes, she says she's only here for you. Let's go," Mason called and he grabbed my hand. He dragged me down to the beach. There was not body on the shore.
"Mason, if you wanted my attention, all you had to do was ask to hang out. You know I love you," I explained. He was obviously lacking all the attention he needed. Why else would a boy make up a story like this?
"No! She was here! I'll look in the forest!" He exclaimed.
"No. You go find Peter. I'll look in the forest; you're too young to go out there by yourself. I can't let you get hurt," I explained beginning my walk to the woods.
"But we go there-"
"No 'buts' about it. Go find Peter. You can't get hurt."
Mason stopped arguing and walked away. He demanded to let him know if I found her. As much as I didn't think the story was true, I had to look. How could a little boy make up a story like this? It had to be true.
After twenty minutes of investigating the woods, I gave up. If there really was a girl out there, I would have seen a sign of her. I sat down on a tree stump and wiped my eyes. When my eyes opened a girl was standing before me.
She was dressed in a simple pink dress and had long blonde hair. She looked a little younger than me and had eyes the shade of the lagoon.
"You scared me," I told her.
"I didn't mean to. I was looking for you," she explained.
"Why? How do you know me?" I asked. How could this girl know me when I've never seen her before? I looked at the trees surrounding us.
