Peace in Rain - Kim Wilson (11)

She sat on the bench, rain pouring down on her blonde curls. The fresh water mixed with the saltiness of her tears. Her mind was wandering far off, she couldn't control it. Everything around her was a blur. Cars sped past; people walked past her without giving the broken hearted girl a second look. It made her realize how selfish people truly could be. She wanted to scream. The thoughts were swarming in her mind. No. She focused on breathing.
One breath in, another out.

     Breathe in. Breathe out.

Rain dripped down her face and fell onto her lap. She closed her eyes and breathed. Her hair was damp and her clothes were too.

     Breathe in. Breathe out.

She was not going to think about how her best friend was just in a terrible accident. She was not going to think of the blood stained seats of the car her friend got for her sixteenth birthday. She was not going to think of the several bones that snapped as result of someone not thinking of others.

     Breathe in. Breathe out.

She could feel her thoughts becoming more organized. Suddenly, she stopped feeling rain hitting her head. She opened her eyes to see a young man sitting on the bench beside her holding his umbrella over her head.

     Breathe in. Breathe out.

"I'm sorry to disturb your thinking time, but you really shouldn't sit in the rain," he said.

"Did you know that you were the only person who noticed me? I was beginning to wonder if I was invisible."

"People don't care about anything that doesn't involve them. They're too busy with their own lives to notice anyone else," he said.

     "And you're different?" She asked.

"I'd like to think so," he laughed, “I'm Andy by the way.”

     “I’m Cece.”

“I have to ask, why are you alone in the rain?”

“I find peace in the rain,” Cece whispered.

  1. Oh my heavens, Kim! In such a short story, you have already got me hooked! If this was the first page of a book, I'd definitely keep reading it. I hope that you always continue to use your talent for writing. I'm so glad I picked yours to comment on! Oftentimes, like Cece, I feel invisible when I'm around strangers. I would love to know the rest of this story, and honestly, I think Andy and Cece should fall in love. Or maybe Andy is going to be an undercover cop trying to put Cece behind bars for the death of her friend, but Cece won't have it, and does everything she can to get away. Hm.. you have my mind going crazy now! There's so many ways for that story to continue. I hope you're having a great summer, Kim. Thanks for the great read, you are incredibly awesome. --karlee sanders

  2. I SHIP IT! It should be canon! Cece and Andy! Let's go! Someone (preferably you, Kimiko) make it happen! I don't really care how; I just know that I want it to happen! I mean, if Andy really thinks people only involve themselves in the affairs of others, then why is he so interested in Cece? ... Wait a minute... I got it! So, Cece's friend just died, and they're trying to gather her closest associates for her funeral, and that includes family, friends, everything. Well, maybe Andy is her distant cousin, all he's ever heard her talk about was Cece, her best friend. Well, when the friend dies, Andy goes to the funeral and finds Cece sitting down in the rain, all depressed and stuff and decides to cheer her up. That could totally work. Maybe...ish... Anyways, thanks for posting this, you're giving me a lot to think about! - Brittany Tucker
