Bullying.

Bullying is the use of superior strength or influence to intimidate, typically to force him or her to do what one wants. Bullying is a major issue in this day and age. Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. I don't know about you, but this is not okay with me. When 160,000 teens skip school ON A DAILY BASIS, there is obviously a problem and something needs to be done about this. It's sad to know that teens are not getting a proper education because they are bullied. I don't see how someone could live with themselves knowing that they are the reason someone won't even come to school because they are afraid to get bullied by them. 1 of of 10 students completely drop out because they are bullied. Making fun of someone could alter someones whole life, It seems as if most bullying is taking place in schools. 25% of teachers see nothing wrong with bullying and only 4% will intervene. Over 67% of students believe that schools respond poorly to bullying and feel like adult help is infrequent and ineffective. Victims of bulling are 7% to 9% more likely to commit suicide. This is not something to be taken lightly. When over 16% of student seriously consider suicide, bulling is not “just a joke”! Bullying isn't just in person; cyberbulling is all too real as well. Cyberbullying is the use of electronic communication to bully a person, usually sending hateful and threatening messages. 42% of youth have reported being cyber bullied. 81% of teens agree that cyberbulliny I easier to get away with. If I see bullying happening anywhere I WILL NOT hesitate to report it. In my opinion, I think there should be harsher punishments for bullying. You never know what another student is facing outside of school. The fact that someone is different from you is no reason to pick on them! What is wrong with being different anyways? Just imagine how boring life would be if everyone were the same. Not fun, right? So don't make fun or pick on someone because they are different. Newsflash: bullying doesn't make you look “cool” or “tough”, it makes you look like a terrible person who has to put others down to make themselves feel better. Think before you speak; you never know the impact it will make on the other person.

  1. Samantha, I didn't know this many people get bullied each year. It isn't okay with me either. I couldn't live with myself knowing that I am the one that is causing someone to not come to school and get a education that they deserve. I would like to say that I will report bullying but sometimes I don't realize that it is happening because I guess were so use to seeing it. I do believe that a harsher punishment would help the bullying become less. I agree with the fact that you said "bullying doesn't make you look cool or tough." I agree with everything you said and hopes that bullying with stop someday!

  2. I think I'm in the 25% and 4% of teachers that notice and try to stop it. But it is hard to find the difference between normal teenage behavior and bullying. I don't think things were this bad when I was in school. Maybe we were tougher. Idk. Plus, we didn't have Internet so cyber bullying wasn't a thing. If someone had a problem, there would usually be a fight and then things would cool down. I'm just glad I'm not a teenager these days. Good luck yall.

  3. Sam, I completely agree with everything you said in this entry. Bullying is blown off by teachers and other adults, when it should be taken very seriously. It's ridiculous that it's such a big issue when all it would take to stop it is a serious punishment. Seeing that it raises someone's likeliness to commit suicide by 7%-9% should be enough motivation to enforce more strict bullying punishments. Just thinking about my future children or grandchildren being picked on by some little punk who hasn't been raised well makes me sick to my stomach. I'm glad you expressed your thoughts on this very important issue <3 -Faith Brooks

  4. It makes me sad to see that people are bullied. I also find it sad that practically no adults put a stop to it. I agree with everything you've said. Bullying isn't funny, cool, or anything good. The fact that bullies make people want to die ticks me off. Like, seriously, how would they like it if someone picked on them so much that they felt like they were nothing but garbage? Not too much in my mind.
If I see someone bullied (and actually recognize what's going on), I'm gonna stop it no matter what. Human life is a precious thing, and it's a tragedy that people would rather take their own lives than stand up to their bullies or get help because they think that no one can help them.
