Super Summer -- Karlee Sanders

Tomorrow I leave for a camp called Super Summer Arkansas. I've been going to Super Summer for four years. This will be my fifth year at camp! Super Summer is a Baptist church camp in which students from all over Arkansas come to unite and worship God. The camp is put on two times, three days for junior high (JV Super Summer), and 5 days for senior high (Super Summer Arkansas). It is hosted by Ouachita Baptist University.

If you're a junior high camper, you are assigned a Prime Time group (Prime Times are named 1-6.). If you’re a senior high camper, you’re assigned a School. (Schools are named the colors red, yellow, green, blue, camo, and orange.) There are six groups in all, and there are about 1500 campers usually, so Prime Times and Schools are usually filled with around 250 campers. Prime Times and Schools compete all during the week for awards, which are rewarded at the end of the week. The Spirit Award is the holy grail of Super Summer awards, I kid you not. The Spirit award is given to the Prime Time or School who has the most spirit all week. Competitions for this are done on the recreation field and in the cafeteria. The Recreation Award is the second best award. Recreation is a bunch of games which all campers compete in to earn points. The team with the most points at the end of the week wins! Lastly, there’s the Decibel Award. The team who is the loudest at the competitions during lunchtime wins. Campers are also assigned a staffer. Staffers are college students who volunteer to be camp counselors for the week. Each staffer is assigned 12 or 13 kids to bond with and talk deeper about what is learned in the Prime Time or School group sessions. Staffers often create lasting relationships with the campers in their groups.

Super Summer also offers an amazing worship experience. Each night, campers go to Big Church. In Big Church, a band (This year it’s the Digital Age!) leads the campers in worship. There are many raised hands and voices proclaiming God’s praise. Following worship, a preacher (This year its Ed Newton!) preaches the Gospel and leads many kids to Christ. Super Summer is truly an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good time in Christ.

  1. I love Super Summer so much!! I am so sad that I don't get to go this year. I agree, Super Summer is a great experience and everyone should have a chance to experience it! My favorite part about Super Summer is meeting new people from all over Arkansas. I have made so many new friendships from my 2 years at Super Summer. I also love rec. I remember always having a great time with my school playing games and just working together in all of the activities. I hope you have a great time at Super Summer this year! I wish I could be there.

  2. I would really like to go to Super Summer. I hope I get to go next year. I think my favorite part would be meeting new people and getting to worship God with everyone. The music and preaching sounds amazing, along with the recreational games. I think that Super Summer definitely improves people's relationships with God and their overall life experience. Next year, I hope that all of us can go together and we get to be in the same school. Going to Super Summer together would help us be closer as friends and Christians. I can't wait to see you, Mattie and Sydney when you get back!! I hope you're having a great time❤️❤️ -Faith Brooks(8)

  3. Hey Karlee :-) I love Super Summer so much. I'm really glad I didn't cancel going this year because I would have regretted it. Rec can be pretty rough at times and exhausting, but it's still fun. I love seeing God work throughout the week and change people for the better. The cafeteria food isn't too shabby either. This was also my 5th year going to Super Summer and I don't think I'll ever get tired of it. I'm already ready for next year. It can't come soon enough! "hiiiiiii Brock"
