Turning 16 Harrison McCall #7

Since the momentous day of July 25th of this year I have been 16. I don't necessarily feel different but it is apparently a big change. I now can legally drive a car by myself, I now have to have a license to go fishing,  it is like all of a sudden I have been given a minor taste of this thing called responsibility.  (Which I don't like because adults are supposed to be the ones with responsibility and I am definitely not ready to be "grown up") For my birthday my family and I went over to Spring River out by Hardy. We went fly fishing in the morning which was really fun considering it was my second time fly fishing, as well as different because I had to keep up with a fishing licence. Early in the morning when we got there it seemed like a good day with a ton of visible topwater action. However, it turned out that the fish were finicky that day and weren't hitting our lures, no matter what we through. As the day went on fishing did pick up and we got some bites every now and then with the occasional hook up. I only ended up catching one, but it was worth it not only because it was a tremendous fight and exhilarating to catch but it was my first fish on al fly rod. All in all in between the cold spring water, intense heat, and dodging canoes and rafts we caught 3 trout and 1 or 2 good bream. We didn't keep the fish that day, but they were still fun to catch. After that, we wandered the streets of the old part of Hardy and visited the candy shop (which was like my favourite part). Then we made the long trek home where I walked into my room and collapsed onto my bed. In between starting to get sick, wading the river, and going on 2 hours of sleep, I was worn out. Well, that was my 16th birthday and it was definitely an enjoyable day.

  1. I remember my 16th birthday starting out quite different. My birthday, as you know, is in early May (the last month of school). So, while you were woke up to go fishing; I woke up to go to school, just like every other day. But, it didn't really feel like every other day, it felt stage that in our society going from 15 to 16 is a huge milestone. You get to drive, have an actual job, and start to get the responsibility you talked about. I hope you had an amazing time, and I hope you finally get to take that drivers test. keep up the great writing and have a great school year.
