YOLO - Harrison McCall #17

YOLO is an acronym that has become very popular in the culture of our generation. It stands for you only live once and conveys the point that you should always live life to the fullest because you only get one. The thing is YOLO is not technically (one of my favorite words) true. In all technicality, it would be better stated as YOLOBLOMLMTAASOSBTDPWKEOBOIODAWCHEOBOITOD, or you only live once but living once means living many times as a series of similar but technically different people who know each other but only in one direction and who can help each other but only in the other direction. Now let me explain this. Throughout your life, your body is constantly filtering out dead cells and replacing them with new cells. This happens millions of times every minute. In about seven years of time, this has happened to the point that every single atom that makes up your body has been replaced. You are a totally new you, not a single thing is the same. Both through your body and your memory. If I look back seven years the person I see is me, but they aren't. Sure, they share some things with me. We both like pizza and funny movies, but we are also very different people. That me is actually skinny and pretty short. That version of me has never been in high school, went to Disney World, or driven a vehicle. That person isn't really friends with my friends. They don't take pictures, play the sax, and have never been in the FFA. That person doesn't know me, but I know them. That means I know that they did some stupid things that they regret; however,  they are my past and I can't change that. Though, they have helped me, by not letting me do those stupid things again.

I did not come up with YOLOBLOMLMTAASOSBTDPWKEOBOIODAWCHEOBOITOD. I credit the entire idea and concept to the Michael and the VSauce youtube channel.

  1. I still kind of disagree with you but I don't want to bring the argument from State Convention back on to the blog. So, I'll stay away from it and just talk about how YOLO is dumb. Well truthfully there are two ways to look at YOLO. One way is that you only live once so you should go out and party and do things that you might regret or cause harm yourself. The other is the complete opposite where you only live once so you should do things that you will regret and/or cause you problems in the future. I personally agree with the second version, but that's my personal opinion. Keep up the great writing and have a great school year.
