Family Camp - Harrison McCall #20

Every summer my family and I go to Family Camp. This happens once a year and is a chance for the United Pentecostal Churches in Arkansas to come together and give honors, raise money, and most importantly have some good old-fashioned brush arbor revival style church services. Every year it is tremendously fun and the services are great. This year was quite the event between the tornado warning and the power outages, but I will get to that in the mean time. It started with packing, and of course, the night before because procrastination. Then was the long haul down to little rock where we stayed. We stayed in the same hotel we usually do so it kind was starting to feel like a small home away from home sort of thing. The first night we were down there all was good: good church, good fellowship, and good sleep in a nice cool room. However, that all changed the second night. The afternoon of the second day we spent in downtown Little Rock and ate before we went to church. While we were eating I huge storm started to blow through. I mean huge, like knocking down tree limbs, tornado producing huge. We didn't think much about it even when the tornado warning popped up on our phones because we were on the very edge of the warning zone and completely out of the path of the funnel cloud. The restaurant said we could stay as long as we like, but the storm was going to last too long and if we waited for it to end we would have missed church, and that wasn't on our plans. So we braved the weather, drove to Redfield, and went to church. We had survived, or at least we thought. When we got back to the hotel it turned out that the power had been knocked out, so us, as well as several thousand other people across multiple states, were without power. This meant we weren't likely to see power anytime soon. We were slightly blessed by having power to our lights and outlets to see and charge our phones thank Jesus, but the AC was still out. The AC was out, and it was Arkansas, and it was summer. Let's just say nobody slept well that night. All in all the trip turned out well and the services were great. I can't wait to see what is in store for next year.

  1. I needed to comment on this one because I also went and I could totally write 100 words on this. I also enjoyed Family Camp. You already know this but I have to write it so I can get a comment over with. I've never been a worker but this year I got to and it was actually pretty cool. I got to serve buscuits and gravy to the long line of hungry people. (Is it buscuits and gravy or buscuit and gravy? I'm confused now.) It was very fun but it got annoying when guys would refer to me as their "honey" and when I was sweeping asked for my number because I was "wife material." Harrison, you don't understand how hard I had to pray so I didn't smack them. I feel like this comment is 100 words now so peace out. -Kim Wilson

  2. My family goes on a trip kind of like this every year. My family, my aunts family, and my grandparents go to Mountain View together. We rent a big cabin and stay together. This year was really amazing even though it seemed like it went buy really fast. We had this amazing cabin atop a mountain. From the balcony you can see this amazing scenery whether it be night or day. It was amazing and my family had a great time just like yours. Keep up the great writing and have a great school year.
