Geralt goes to the dock to travel to the swamp but is
stopped by guards protecting the gate to the docks. He asks them if he can
pass, but they tell him that no one is allowed through the gate without
permission. Right as Geralt was about to leave, the knight he met from the
sewer walks up to Geralt and the guards and tells them that Geralt is allowed
to pass through because he is a friend to the knight’s order. Before leaving
for the swamp the player is allowed to do side missions such as: protecting
female citizens from Salamandra goons harassing them, questioning people around
the city about where his newly given Silver Sword had come from and, if you did
the first one, trading Salamandra badges that you took of the goons bodies to a
wealthy merchant. You meet this merchant when you first enter the docks, he
offers quite a bit of money for the badges that you are carrying and after you
talk for a while Geralt becomes friends with the merchant. The merchant then
asks for a favor from Geralt, there are monsters that keep attacking his ships
at night before they leave to transfer his goods from the swamp to the city.
The merchant asks Geralt to go to the swamp and defeat the monsters. Geralt
then employs a boat man to take him across the river to the swamp. He defeats
the monsters and then returns to the city. He talks to the merchant and he
rewards Geralt by proposing a partnership. The merchant tells you that he will
help you in destroying Salamandra because they are harming his business in the
city. Geralt agrees to take his help and the merchant tells him that they will
talk again later, after he comes up with a plan (you do not end up meeting him
again until the third chapter). Geralt goes back to the swamp and starts
looking for the mages tower and how to enter it. He finds the tower but cannot
discover how to open it. He returns to the alchemist to ask for help.
